Hello! My name is Iolanda Constantina Stan Reinsmith.
I was born, raised, and schooled in Eastern Europe. I grew up surrounded by old icons, old architectural carvings, old churches, and buildings. Poverty forced me to create new things out of whatever I could find. When I was in 7th grade, my brother my sister and I had to learn how to raise ourselves. It was only fun for about two weeks. After that we ran out of food, and we had to find ways to make money. Trading services (tutoring) for food and toiletries was another way to get what we needed. My brother learn how to fish and catch rabbits (to this day he doesn't know that I never ate any bunnies). I learned how to cook, design and make one of a kind outfits and accessories. We were the trend setters in our city, and my creations were in high demand. Life has a funny way of teaching you what is important. As far as I'm concerned, hope is the most important gift that you can give anybody. Putting a smile on a stranger's face is a close second on my list.
I am a dreamer. I take the time to slow down when I am touched by a sight, sound, taste or smell that thrills my senses. I am still able to see things through the eyes of a child, and that gives me the freedom to paint like a child would. I often use bright, bold colors to paint my happy trees and I have been known to dress up my angels in neon colored clothing. I paint with my heart, and I give new life to things that most people would throw away. I love to paint angels that resemble people of all races. God gifted me with an amazing imagination, and I firmly believe that God’s imagination is limitless. He gave us different skin color and a wide range of sizes. He took the time to create a variety of eye shapes and hair textures… I believe that it would be disrespectful to assume that the angels that He surrounds Himself with are just white blond women.
I choose to work with and on reclaimed/ recycled materials. It makes me happy to transform an old beat up piece of wood into a piece of art. Old papers, cereal boxes, soda cans, broken vintage jewelry, electrical components inspire me, and they become an integral part of my creative process.
I moved to USA twenty two years ago. I am happily married, mother of three.
I paint in different styles, and use different media I am a big believer in reclaiming and reusing raw materials. I use reclaimed wood, recycled tin tiles, cupboards, cabinet doors, paper, cardboard boxes, soda cans, fabric & canvas. My art is collected both locally and worldwide.
